Darwin Easter Convergence for Refugee Rights
Posted on Friday 30/3/2012
Supporting events in some capital cities for those who can't make it to Darwin. Nothing planned for Brisbane yet.
The national refugee rights campaign has decided, after several years, to stage another refugee rights convergence, this time on Darwin, which is rapidly becoming the detention capital of Australia. The event is being organised jointly by local RAC and RAC-type groups from across the nation, with special input by DASSAN (Darwin Asylum Seeker Support & Advocacy Network).
There will be demonstrations outside several strategic places, including Darwin's detention centres.
Arrangements will be made for sleeping, eating and transport. Check the convergence website and facebook page. (Links from RAC website, www.rac-qld.org ).
Friday. Midday rally in Darwin. Visit NIDC (Northern Immigration Detention Centre) in afternoon.
Saturday. AM: Visit NIDC and Darwin Airport Lodge. PM: Rock Against Racism.
Sunday. AM: Visit Wickham Point Immigration Detention Centre. PM: Return to NIDC.
Monday: National conference/discussion on campaign; possible visit to NIDC.
Tuesday: Anti-intervention action organised by Aboriginal Rights Coalition.
