Annerley Literacy Centre (ALC)
ALC is a project of Anglicare Refugee and
Migrant Services. It is both a bookshop and a centre to assist community
members to improve their literacy including computer literacy. It provides
multi-level ESL classes; homework assistance to primary school children from
non English speaking homes; assistance with homework for adult non English
speakers undertaking more advanced study; literacy classes for adult

AUSTCARE
AUSTCARE's Queensland office raises community awareness
and funds for overseas aid projects for refugees and internally displaced
persons. Activities include community awareness programs for schools,
service clubs and multicultural organisations. Resources are available to community
groups, schools etc and include education packages, fact sheets, posters,
videos, power point and exhibition materials. AUSTCARE Queensland
co-ordinates special celebrations throughout the year including
"World Refugee Day" in June and "Refugee Week" in
October when over 100 organisations focus on organising events and
activities in support of refugees and raising funds to help refugees.

The Bayside refugee support group directly supports

Bramble Bay Refugee Action Group (BBRAG)
BBRAG is made up of community members who are unhappy and

Brisbane Refugee & Asylum Seeker Health Network (BRASHN)
A voluntary and totally independent advocacy group of
doctors, nurses, dentists, pharmacists, allied health workers and
community development workers that meet monthly in Brisbane to work out
strategies to improve the health of asylum seekers, refugees, their
children and families. This group has well over 70 members and is growing
rapidly. Meetings are held monthly at the Refugee Claimants Support Centre

The Hazara Ethnic Society Inc. (HESI)
This group provides support for refugees and asylum
seekers in Australia. President, Hassan Ghulam, works tirelessly to help
people in detention and those in the community on temporary protection
visas. Without this support, the uncertainty and alienation faced by many
refugees and asylum seekers would be unbearable. Members of the HESI also

SEQ Golden Key Refugee Tutoring program is

Unaccompanied Humanitarian Minors
Program
This program supports with young males from
Afghanistan on Temporary Protection Visas who are or have been Wards of the
State, and have no family here. The program also supports young people from
countries such as Sudan who are here without their parents but have a family
member over 21 assisting them i.e. sister, cousin, aunt etc. They are on
Permanent protection visas. The program is funded by DIMIA and the
Department of Families in a cost sharing capacity.
